Mayor's Welcome
That being said, welcome to the Dirt Cove website. Dirt Cove is a scenic community located quaintly in a historic location on the province's Shagwater Peninsula. We hope that our website is just as scenic and historic as the community itself. Also quaint. Dirt Cove was founded by two brothers and their wife who were cast out of the neighbouring community of Upper Lower Cove for "lewyd condukt" soon after it was settled in 1650. The proud surnames of Wrongwrub and Wrightwrub can be traced back to these early settlers. Soon, other castaways, stowaways, criminals, and shipwrecked or lost sailors would settle here, adding to our proud heritage. You can read more about the historic history of Dirt Cove on our History page.
A recent Government survey shows over 63% of Dirt Covians interviewed had a minimal to below-average interest in bettering their lives and/or working. More recently though, a store and a bar have helped diversify the economy and offer tourists and visitors alike with a place to spend their money. Of the many attractions to Dirt Cove, the most goodest is Uncle Wally's Pub. With both kinds of beer, assorted spirits, moonshine, and mix available it is a good place to drink. Uncle Wally's also cashes pension, GST, and Government cheques of all kinds. Dining is also available with a fine selection of locally made pickled "meat" sausages. Visitors can enjoy the excitement of the only pool table in Dirt Cove, or try their luck at one of their 13 Video Lotto machines. And remember, ladies, Wednesday is Ladies Bingo night and Friday is mixed darts. What more is there to offer?
Hope to see you soon at Uncle Wally's Pub. (I'm there most nights.) Wallace "Uncle Wally" Pippy |
